King Lear is the world premiere of the first translation of Shakespeare's King Lear into Lebanese ammiya. (The production will have English titles). The play will be presented by the 150th Anniversary Committee and the Theater Initiative at Masrah al-Madina in Hamra, Beirut, from December 1 to December 18, 2016 (Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays at 8:30pm), with a cast that includes Roger Assaf, Rifaat Torbey and Fouad Yammine. It is a professional production with the award-winning Faction Theatre, a London-based theater company, and English 244 Theater Workshop. Sahar Assaf, Assistant Professor of Theater,will co-direct with Rachel Valentine-Smith of The Faction. Mark Leipacher of The Faction is dramaturg and Robert Myers, Professor of English, is producer.
