Monday Feb 20, 2017
West Hall – Auditorium A
Andreas Ellwardt studied Semitic Studies, Languages and Cultures of Oriental Christianity, Comparative Indo-European Linguistics and Catholic Theology at Berlin and Tübingen. He is a Research Fellow at Universität Hamburg and University of St Andrews. He participated in national and international workshops in Prague, Naples, Hamburg, Bucharest, Kottayam, Addis Ababa, Alexandria, Granada, and Beirut. He is a member of the Research Centre for Oriental Christianity of the Catholic University Eichstätt-Ingolstadt and of the Gesellschaft zum Studium des Christlichen Ostens.
The lecture gives an overview on Semitic languages and literatures. A case study of Early Christian Canon law texts in Syriac, Arabic and Ethiopic will demonstrate the characteristic issues encountered at that crossroad of Linguistics and Theology.
