The Build It Weekend is a national university-level hardware hackathon. The event aims to polish practical prototyping skills, focusing on the engineering implementation side of a product. It will take place in the American University of Beirut, IOEC, on the weekend of April 21-23, 2017. The capacity of the weekend is around 75 students from Lebanese universities. Over a period of 48 hours, teams of 2-4 students are expected to design, build, and program a working prototype of a project that will achieve a specific purpose. At the end of the event, an exhibition of the projects will take place and a panel of judges will choose winners.
All parts, tools, and components will be provided to participants. Also, computer-based manufacturing tools, like 3D printers and CNC machines, would be offered for teams to use. Also, a technical team for AUB Robotics Club, AUB instructors and graduate students, and Lamba Labs will be providing technical support and advice to participants. At the end of the event, there will be a closing ceremony, where gold sponsors will give short speeches, the winners will be announced, and prizes of $1500 will be awarded to the top 5 teams overall. Teams will be evaluated based on design process, manufacturing process, performance, packaging, completeness, and innovation. The usefulness of the idea will not be taken into consideration.
Partners: The Faculty of Engineering and Architecture in AUB, Lamba Labs.
