Miguel Angel Pellao was born in Santa Barbara, home to many of Chile’s indigenous people – the Pehuenches. When he was 4, and after his father’s death, he was raised in a boarding school with other children where the only thing he used to do was sing.
When he was 7 years old, he received as a gift a cassette with the “Grandes Cantantes de la Lírica” (The Great Lyrical Singers) and for the first time he started listening to classical music. At the age of 9, he could sing José Carreras songs.
At 14, he participated in many events organized by the Municipality of Alto Biobío and had to miss school exams. He won the Festival of Piñón and other competitions and got his first guitar as a prize. He became well-known in his locality, and in 1999, he was awarded by local authorities with a three-year scholarship to study at the Conservatorio Vivaldi (The Vivaldi Music Conservatory) in Concepción, Chile.
In 2002, his friends the Barra Valdebenito helped him get a two-year scholarship. He studied Musical Art in the Universidad de Chile in Santiago. There, he met Max Berrú, ex member of the group Inti Illimani, who baptized him as “El Tenor Pehuenche” and assisted him to travel to Europe in 2007. In Italy, he settled down in Pescara and started studying Lyrical singing in the Conservatorio D’Annunzio.
Pellao has sung Verdi and Puccini. He has toured all over Europe and performed many concerts in Italy, Greece, England, and Switzerland.
