AUB President visits AREC in support of 'first rate research' 

President Khuri inaugurated AREC’s newly refurbished student lounge and toured the facility while sharing a meal and meeting with students, faculty, and staff working at the facility. READ MORE

 

It is with great sorrow that FAFS announces the passing away of HE Mr. Elie Skaff, an Alumnus of FAFS/AUB and a member of FAFS external advisory Board.

Mr. Skaff  graduated in 1975 with a BS degree in Agriculture from the American University of Beirut.  He later served his alma mater with faith and dedication, participating in alumni events and serving as a dynamic member of the External Advisory Board of the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences since 2000.

During his active political career, MP Skaff represented the Zahle district in Parliament (1992-2009), and was appointed as Minister of industry in 2003 and Minster of agriculture in 2004 and  2008.

Mr. Skaff is survived by his wife Myriam Gebran Tawq and their two children, Joseph and Gebran.

May his soul rest in peace.

A study on introducing "No-Till Conservation Agriculture to Lebanon" led by Dr. Isam Bashour, professor at the Department of Agriculture FAFS/AUB is currently on display at the Universal Expo Milano 2015 from May 1 to October 31, 2015. READ MORE

Nutrition Students collaborate with FoodBlessed to cook lunch for the children of Home of Hope 

For their summer course NFSC 225 B, 14 nutrition students decided to join hands with FoodBlessed, a local hunger-relief non-profit organization that has made it its mission to alleviate hunger amongst the downtrodden in Lebanon by linking food donors to food donees, while raising awareness on food waste and food rescue. Professor Zurayk appointed to high-level UN food security body

Dr. Zurayk was selected to be a member of the High Level Panel of Experts on Food Security and Nutrition, which was established in 2010 as the science-policy interface of the UN Committee on World Food Security, an intergovernmental body that serves as a forum for review and follow up of food security policies. FAFS Research Reveals Antibiotic and Fuel Potential of Lebanese Coastal Microalgae

The 22 species that were identified from several Lebanese coastal areas have the potential to serve as biodiesel, antibiotics, nutritional supplements, and even promote organic agriculture. Dr. Yusuf Abou Jawdah led the research study, which is part of the EU-funded project called, "Production of biofuels from microalgae in selected Mediterranean Countries ENPI MED- ALGAE.” READ MORE

Conference on Loan Options for Small and Medium Enterprises in the Agriculture and Food Sectors Held at FAFS

A conference on “Access to Finance for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in the Agriculture and Food Sectors” was organized by the Department of Agriculture. Dr. Saad Andary, the second Vice Governor of the Central Bank of Lebanon, and Dr. Khater Bou Habib, the Chairman and General Manager of the National Institute for the Guarantee of Deposits and Kafalat. The Department of Agriculture at the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences (FAFS) and the Lebanese Ministry of Agriculture held a workshop on Conservation Agriculture. ESDU has been awarded a grant from Dr. Scholl Foundation for its project entitled: “Kitchen Gardens for Syrian Refugees and Host Communities in Lebanon”, which is an annual grant dedicated to provide “financial assistance to organizations committed to improving our world”
