The AUB community, friends, and family gathered once again at the Advancing Research Enabling Communities (AREC) to enjoy a fun-filled day in nature’s arms for the annual AREC Day on April 24th, 2016. Students, faculty, staff, and guests enjoyed games, performances, generous food, and the beautiful scenery and warm weather of the Beqa’a plain.
Away from the busy streets of Beirut city, over 600 attendees enjoyed festivities and the fresh air of the green fields of the center as they rested under Bedouin tents.
A variety of inflatable games as well as soap soccer kept children busy for hours. Activities such as hay ride farm tours as well as horse and camel riding were offered as a DJ played music that echoed through the plain. A special folk dance group from Baalbeck performed the traditional dabkeh dance as the rest joined in alongside them.
As usual, the day began with a traditional Lebanese breakfast, manakeesh, saj with all types of toppings. Lunch was even more delicious with an endless variety of oriental delights with Arabic coffee being served all day long.
AREC day was organized by the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences Student Representative Committee (FAFS SRC) and AREC (faculty, staff and students) and sponsored by FAFS, USFC, Rim, Dunkin Donuts, Freez, Lipton, Wilco Poultry and Meat, Taanayel.
The AUB family enjoyed another joyful day at AREC. What special surprises will AREC Day 2017 have in store for us?
