FAFS Celebrates the first group of students to receive the Registered Dietitians credential and first accredited class of the Nutrition and Dietetics Coordinated Program

The Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences celebrated two important milestones for the Department of Nutrition and Food Sciences (NFSC) in a Celebratory Gala Dinner on Tuesday May 17th, 2016. Students of the Nutrition and Dietetics Coordinated Program, proud parents, faculty, staff and special guests, gathered on this great occasion to celebrate the first group of students to receive the Registered Dietitians (RD) credential and first accredited class of the Nutrition and Dietetics Coordinated Program  (CP7).

Dr. Lara Nasreddine, Chairperson of the Nutrition and Food Sciences Department, gave a speech addressing the guests of honor. The seven Registered Dietitians were congratulated for being the first group of graduates to receive this credential from a non-US program offered only at the American University of Beirut. They all sat for the US Registration Examination for Dietitians (RD Exam) and all passed demonstrating a 100% success rate.

The graduation of the first accredited class of the Nutrition and Dietetics Coordinated Program was also celebrated that evening. These students were graduating from the first and only nutrition program in the entire Middle East to obtain this US accreditation in 2013, offered at AUB.

Dr. Nasreddine proudly stated that “the NFSC department has in fact worked, with unwavering perseverance and diligence, on earning the US accreditation from the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND)”. She stressed that FAFS “will remain dedicated to provide the best to its students and is looking forward towards celebrating the graduation of many more classes to come”.

Dean Nahla Hwalla spoke about the Journey to Excellence of the NFSC department and proudly pinned the newly Registered Dietitians and distributed verification statements to the recently graduated CP7 students.

The Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences at AUB will remain to be known for being the Faculty of Firsts, by continuously working towards providing its students with programs from exemplary educational standards and carry on to be a pioneer for higher education in the region.
