Silver coins issued by BDL commemorate AUB’s 150th
On the occasion of AUB's 150th anniversary, Lebanon's Central Bank (BDL) Governor Riad Salameh issued a statement announcing that a limited series of special, official silver coins honoring AUB will be put in circulation.

One thousand sets have been issued of five distinctive pure silver coins that come in three-dimensional shapes, representing AUB's Main Gate with 1 LL denomination; College Hall with 10 LL denomination; Assembly Hall with 10 LL denomination; Lee Observatory with 10 LL denomination; and Green Field with 5 LL denomination. In addition, 1,000 individual coins representing Main Gate with 10 LL denomination, and another 1,000 representing College Hall with 10 LL denomination, have been issued.

President Dr. Fadlo R. Khuri received the first set of coins from Central Bank Governor Salameh in the Governor's office.

Mr. Salameh said that the Central Bank's honoring of AUB is a sincere recognition of the University and its special role and leadership in Lebanon, the region, and the world in the academic and medical fields, in addition to the community and social role that it has played over the past 150 years.

“Over the years, AUB has played a major role in diffusing knowledge, thus contributing to the development of Lebanon and the MENA region culturally and economically," said Governor Riad Salameh.

“I believe that, under the presidency of Dr. Fadlo Khuri, AUB will develop even more and serve the young generations and attract foreign students, enhancing with that the regional, educational role of Lebanon."

The commemorative coins can be acquired through the AUB Office of Advancement. The College Hall coins will go for 1,000,000 LL; Main Gate coins will go for 250,000 LL; and the full set of five coins will go for 3,250,000 LL. The net proceeds will fund a special AUB 150th Endowed Scholarship Fund that was initiated on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of AUB.
