AUB honors its employees at Service Award Ceremony
A ceremony was held by AUB's Human Resource Office for current employees who completed 10, 15, 20, and 25 years of service to AUB during 2016. One hundred and forty-six staff members from AUB's various faculties and administrative offices were recognized for their service to AUB and presented with Service Award pins that carry the official University seal.

“You have in your time here served this institution with great enthusiasm and integrity," Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Ramin Sedehi, told the honorees. “Your unceasing dedication, skills, and know-how have moved the institution forward in its mission to educate the students that walk through our doors and enable the faculty that call AUB their intellectual home. You have also served each other with expertise, professionalism, and kindness."

“You help, you advise, you guide, and you manage. In fact you have done this throughout many years; through rough times and calm times, through periods of financial difficulty and periods of political unrest," he added.

Unlike previous years, the ceremony this year honored all AUB employees together in one grand celebration, in the presence of the Chief Operating Officer, Interim Provost Mohamad Harajli, Faculty Deans, and upper administration from both AUB and AUB's Workers and Staff Syndicate. Out of the 146 honorees, 27 staff members were recognized for 10 years of service, 34 for serving 15 years, 50 for serving 20 years, and 35 for serving AUB for 25 years – adding up, as Mr. Sedehi pointed out – to an impressive total of “2,655 years of service".

“This is a day of honoring AUB's fine employees who have dedicated years of their lives and sacrificed to serve this University," said President of the AUB Workers and Staff Syndicate, Mr. George Jurdi.  “AUB is a humanitarian, non-profit institution and it continues to care first and foremost for its students and employees… You, the employees, are not unknown soldiers, you sincerely give all that you can give, regardless of the compensation, driven by a common goal that is AUB's sustainability as the lighthouse of the whole Middle East."

Reference and Instruction Librarian Albert Haddad was one of the honored employees, having served AUB for 10 years to date. An AUB alumnus himself, he got his master's degree in the US and returned to work at AUB. “I had campus home-sickness! I love this place. Working here has been a very good experience that I hope to keep enjoying. I would not have worked here this long if I didn't love everything about AUB."

“When you are appreciated like this, you feel proud and are motivated to give even more" said Randa Shatila, Grounds Supervisor at AUB's Physical Plant Department. “This is a big institution that is appreciating me… I studied here, I plan to stay here, I am proud of belonging to AUB."

The ceremony included a music performance and concluded with a celebratory cake-cutting and reception.
