Franz-Josef Ulm

A trustee since 2021, Franz-Josef Ulm is a professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Massachusetts Institute of Technology since 1999, and the Faculty Director of the Concrete Sustainability Hub. He is also a permanent Visiting Scholar at the Department of Civil Engineering at Birzeit University and is an elected  Member of the National Academy of Engineering. Ulm won the Newsmaker award of Engineering News Record for his work on "paving the way for greener concrete” and the ASCE Von Karman Medal in 2012. He has published more than 250 scientific papers in international engineering mechanics, materials science and biomechanics journals, and more than 150 papers in refereed conference proceedings. Ulm is a graduate of Ecole Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées (PhD ’94).​
