  Founded in 1866, the American University of Beirut is a teaching-centered research university based on the American liberal arts model of higher education. AUB has over 8,000 students and 800 faculty members. Sarine Karajerjian

An alumni trustee since 2023, Sarine Karajerjian (BS ’04, MS ‘11) is the program director of the Environmental Politics Program at the Arab Reform Initiative (ARI). Prior to working at ARI, Karajerjian worked for 15 years at AUB’s Issam Fares Institute (IFI) for Public Policy and International Affairs. Her work at IFI covered strategic management, fundraising and outreach, partnerships, and grants management. Karajerjian is currently pursuing a PhD in Anthropology at Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales (EHESS) in Paris and writing her dissertation on the exile and trauma of Syrian refugee women in Beirut.
