  Founded in 1866, the American University of Beirut is a teaching-centered research university based on the American liberal arts model of higher education. AUB has over 8,000 students and 800 faculty members. The University encourages freedom of thought and expression and seeks to graduate men and women committed to creative and critical thinking, lifelong learning, personal integrity, civic responsibility, and leadership.

  AUB is accredited in the US by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education and includes six faculties: Arts and Sciences, Medicine, Engineering and Architecture, Agricultural and Food Sciences, Health Sciences, and Business. AUB offers more than 130 programs leading to bachelor's, master's, MD, and PhD degrees. The main language of instruction is English.

Abdo George Kadifa

A trustee since 2014, the chair of the AUB Board of Trustees, and an AUB graduate (BE electrical engineering '81), Kadifa is a managing director and Co-founder at Sumeru Equity Partners. He was formerly executive vice president/general manager of HP Software, a member of Hewlett-Packard Company's Executive Council, operating partner, Silver Lake Partners, and vice president of global delivery at IBM Global Technology Services. Kadifa is a member of the External Advisory Board of Maroun Semaan Faculty of Engineering and Architecture's Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and a former member of the Young Presidents' Organization. He is a graduate of the California Institute of Technology (MS electrical engineering '82) and of the University of Chicago Booth School of Business (MBA '89).
