American University of Beirut

Higher Education Scholarships (HES) USP and RSS
  • From its inception during AY 2011-12 to date, over 800 scholars with equal gender distribution were granted the HES comprehensive scholarship award to complete their undergraduate studies at AUB. Over 550 scholars graduated to date.

The Higher Education Scholarships (HES) program is a premier educational scholarship program funded by the U.S. government in Lebanon. Each year, approximately 50 students from across Lebanon are awarded the HES scholarship to pursue undergraduate degrees at the American University of Beirut (AUB). Lebanese citizens and non-Lebanese refugees residing in Lebanon are eligible to apply to the program.

The mission of the AUB HES program is to expand access to higher education for less privileged, low-income communities across Lebanon. It aims to provide educational experiences to individuals who have not previously afforded such an opportunity, enriching both scholars and the AUB community. HES scholars also serve as cultural ambassadors and are encouraged to speak about their experiences, research, and academic achievements with their communities.

The HES program has enabled hundreds of scholars to establish academic and professional networks in their fields of study and to form long-lasting friendships with their peers. Scholars have the opportunity to participate in internships, engage in community service, and pursue other academic interests in a supportive environment that fosters both personal growth and professional development.
