The Society of the Friends of the AUB Archaeological Museum hosted an operatic concert on Wednesday, April 27 at 6:00 pm at the AUB Archaeological Museum to honor Professor Samir Tabet, AUB vice-president emeritus and longtime president emeritus of The Society of the Friends of the AUB Museum.

The occasion drew Prof. Tabet's close relatives and friends, as well as President Khuri and Provost Dawy. Dr. Panayot, curator of the AUB Museum, gave a speech tracing Prof. Tabet's inspiring dual life as an accomplished academic and artist, including his four-year stint as AUB acting president, during which he held the fort at AUB, sleeping in College Hall and taking a defiant stance in the face of a raging war.

“When Aristotle was asked: where dwell the Muses? He answered: 'In the souls of those who love work.'" Throughout his life, Samir was such a soul, precise, rigorous, hardworking and perseverant, and at the same time, refined, sophisticated, and elegant, with a dash of panache," added Dr. Panayot.

Mezzo-Soprano Eliane Saadeh dazzled the audience with her voice and was accompanied by Camil Mucca on violin I, Rita Asdikian on violin II, Joe Daou on viola, Nayiry Ghazarian on cello, and Armen Kechek on the piano.
