President Fadlo R. Khuri Term Extended to 2030

Dear Members of the AUB Community,

We are delighted to announce that at the Annual Meeting of the American University of Beirut Board of Trustees, held in New York City today, the board voted unanimously and with great enthusiasm to extend President Fadlo R. Khuri’s five-year appointment through 2030. President Khuri joined AUB in 2015 as the university’s 16th president, hailing from Emory University where he was professor and chairman of the Department of Hematology and Medical Oncology, Emory University School of Medicine, and the Roberto C. Goizueta Distinguished Chair for Cancer Research.

Since 2015, tenure has been restored, AUB Online has been launched, student financial aid has tripled, and AUB successfully spearheaded the largest capital campaign in the MENA region. President Khuri has led AUB through the world’s third worst national economic collapse since the mid-19th century, the devastating 2020 Beirut explosion, a global pandemic, and transformed AUB’s finances after the Lebanese pound had lost 98% of its value.

In Fadlo Khuri we have a president who is dedicated, driven, and visionary. Even in the worst of times, he pushed to open AUB’s first ever twin campus in Pafos, Cyprus, and extended the AUB Medical Center’s health care delivery through the acquisition of our first community hospital, the Keserwan Medical Center. On his renewal, President Khuri stated, “I am grateful for the Board and AUB community’s continued trust. It is an honor and pleasure to continue to lead and serve the American University of Beirut, one of the finest mission oriented academic institutions in the world.”

On behalf of the board of trustees, please join me in congratulating the president as we look forward to a dynamic and promising third term.

Sincerely,

Philip S. Khoury
Chairman of the Board
American University of Beirut Board of Trustees
