In the 22nd edition of the
QS World University Rankings (WUR) 2026, the American University of Beirut (AUB) continues to be a regional and international force, now ranked in the top 16 percent globally. AUB secured a tie at #237 out of 1,501 institutions worldwide, advancing 13 places from last year’s rankings—an impressive leap amid growing global competition.
AUB maintained its #1 position in Lebanon and ranked 8th in the MENA region, reaffirming its dedication to producing impactful research, cultivating future leaders, and operating with a strong focus on sustainability, despite the challenges faced by the university, Lebanon, and the Levant.
Leadership in Employability of Graduates
In this 2026 QS rankings, AUB’s strongest results are in employability, ranking #33 globally and #3 in the MENA region for employment outcomes, scoring an impressive 98.7 out of a possible 100 in this category. AUB also ranked #6 in employer reputation in the MENA region and #200 worldwide, reinforcing its standing as a key producer of skilled and job-ready graduates.
Impactful Research and Discovery
This year, QS implemented advanced data science techniques to validate over 1.5 million academic nominations and 520,000 employer nominations worldwide, reflecting a growing emphasis on skills. As a result, AUB secured a global ranking of #288 worldwide in academic reputation and #10 in the MENA region. Also, AUB achieved a 10-point increase in its citations per faculty indicator, which measures an institution’s relative intensity and volume of research based on citations in refereed publications.
A Pioneer in Sustainability
AUB ranked 204th globally and 1st in the MENA region in sustainability. This outstanding performance underscores the university’s strong commitment to social impact and environmental responsibility.
According to Google Trends 2023, QS remains the most trusted and widely recognized global provider of university rankings, student insights, and guidance in higher education. QS evaluates universities across nine key indicators of academic reputation, citations per faculty, faculty-student ratio, employer reputation, employment outcomes, international faculty ratio, international student ratio, international research network (IRN), and sustainability.
