George Khoury (JAD), is a comics artist, author, and scholar, is considered a pioneer of the art of comics in the Arab world. His critical writings on graphic narratives from the region, an area that has been largely overlooked, are now collected in this eagerly anticipated book.

In 1980, JAD authored the first adult graphic novel in the region, and later founded the first collective of comics artists (JADworkshop). He has written and lectured extensively on the subject, bringing to bear his unique perspective as both a practicing comics artist and a journalist with years of experience.

In this groundbreaking referential work, Jad has carefully curated a collection of his newspaper articles, interviews with leading Arab world artists, and in-depth analytical essays. Some of these essays are published here for the first time. Although the focus is on comics, his writings provide a historical timeline framed within the global south, and offer a unique reading of the region’s political, social, and economic landscape, which scholars from all areas will find both fascinating and informative.
