PhD Program

​​​​​​​The Doctoral Program in Biomedical Sciences (DBMS) at the Faculty of Medicine offers a Ph.D. in multiple disciplines including Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics​.

Admission Requirements

​Students eligible for admission to the DBMS program must have a sound a​cademic record with a minimum of 85% or its equivalent in the major field of study in addition to a total minimum GRE score of 304 (equivalent to 1100 converted old GRE score) in the verbal and quantitative reasoning sections.

Program Requirements

​Fifty credit hours of course work beyond the bachelor’s program or 29 credit hours of course work beyond the master’s program are required. To fulfill course requirements, 16 required core courses (34 credits), in addition to elective courses, are offered. A maximum of 21 credit hours may be transferred from the master’s work if considered within the scope of the program. Students are expected to register for 24 credits of thesis.

After the first year, each student will select a thesis advisor based on the student’s choice of discipline within the program. Under Microbiology and Immunology, the thesis project is conducted in one of the fields relevant to the discipline depending on the thesis project advisor and the laboratory selected by the student. The various sub-disciplines in which the thesis project can be conducted at the Department include immunology, bacteriology, virology, parasitology, molecular microbiology, cancer, Drosophila-associated research, etc. Further information on the laboratories, research interests and projects of the faculty members of the Department is available via the following link ​​
