SURG 268 Elective in Surgery 0.180-360.

Knowledge of English is necessary. AUB fourth year students may elect to rotate through one or more of the following disciplines: general and pediatric surgery neurosurgery, orthopedic surgery, plastic surgery, and urology. Non-AUB third and fourth year medical students may elect to rotate through one or more of the following disciplines: general (including pediatric surgery, cardiovascular surgery), neurosurgery, orthopedic surgery, plastic surgery and urology, depending on availability of spots. Non-AUB students act as observers only, for a period of one to two months. No elective will be offered in the months of July and August.


MED IV - SELECTIVE

This selective is offered to fourth year AUB medical students in General Surgery and Plastic Surgery. The program can accommodate up to two selective candidates at any point in time. Students rotating as selective will be evaluated on their efforts and participation during ward rounds and in the operating room. Students are expected to demonstrate appropriate bedside clinical presentations, diagnostic evaluation and the ability to develop and implement a management plan. Students are also expected to demonstrate ability in basic surgical skills such as suturing and knot tying. The faculty and the chief resident of the service will evaluate the individual student and will summarize the overall performance. In addition, students are offered a written MCQ exam at the end of the rotation. No selective will be offered in the months of July and August.​
